This Volkswagen Kubelwagen replica was built by Intermeccaica in Canada in 2001 and is the 43rd of a reported 62 produced. The fiberglass body is finished in a tan gel coat over saddle vinyl upholstery and powered by a dual-port 1.6L flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes a tan canvas soft top, 15″ steel wheels, front disc brakes, Weber ITC carburetors, a folding windshield, rear-hinged front doors, an EMPI shifter, oak wood-plank floorboards, front bucket seats, a heater, and a Blaupunkt head unit. The car was reportedly first ordered by a Dutch customer for a road trip from British Columbia to Florida and is said to have then been brokered by the son of Intermeccanica’s founder to the current owner in 2014. Work carried out in August 2022 consisted of repairing the heater cable and re-gluing the decklid insulation. This Kübelwagen replica is now offered on behalf of the owner with recent service records, side windows, and a Washington title describing the car as a 2001 Kit Vehicle.
The Intermeccanica Kubelwagen replica was built using a tubular steel perimeter frame and fiberglass bodywork. This example is finished in tan gel coat and equipped with a tan canvas soft top, a folding windshield, dual side mirrors, rear-hinged front doors, front vent windows, boot scraper plates, a fender-mounted shovel, a quarter-panel mounted jerry can, and Volkswagen-branded mud flaps. Wear is noted on the windshield frame. Four removable side curtains are included in the sale.
Body-color 15” steel wheels wear matching hub caps and are mounted with 195/70 Continental VancoFourSeason tires that show 2017 date codes. A matching spare is mounted on the hood. The car’s suspension and running gear were sourced from a first-generation VW Type 2, and this car is equipped with front disc brakes and KYB shocks.
The front bucket seats, rear bench, and door panels are trimmed saddle vinyl. Equipment includes a rear grab bar, lap seatbelts, oak duckboards, floor drains, tinted sun visors, a heater, an EMPI shifter, and a Blaupunkt CD player. The heater cable was repaired in August 2022.
The three-spoke steering wheel wears a stitched-on cover and an Intermeccanica horn button. The body-color metal dashboard houses a central reserve-sweep 180-km/h speedometer, and the five-digit odometer shows 12k kilometers (~7k miles).
The dual-port 1.6L flat-four is topped with Weber ITC carburetors. Service in 2019 consisted of performing an oil change, cleaning the oil screen, replacing the oil sump gaskets, and adjusting the carburetors. The decklid insulation was re-glued in August 2022. Oil seepage is noted.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transaxle. Additional photos of the underside are provided in the image gallery.
The Intermeccanica data plate indicates an April 2001 build date along with additional specifications. A “replica” branded title was issued in Washington in 2014 and lists the car as a 2001 Kit Vehicle.
