In a dazzling display of unity, resilience, culture, and community spirit, Olongapo City celebrated its annual City Fiesta Parade on December 30, 2023. Spearheaded by the dynamic leadership of Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. and supported by the Department of Education under the guidance of Dr. Imelda P. The festivities kicked off at 1:00 PM and continued until 5:00 PM, captivating the streets with colorful floats in a Candy Land theme, lively street dancing, and impressive drum and lyre exhibitions. The parade was a true testament to the city’s commitment to celebrate its rich cultural heritage and foster community camaraderie.

Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr., who actively led the City Fiesta Committee, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, saying, “The City Fiesta Parade is a time-honored tradition that brings our community together. It’s a celebration of our identity, diversity, and shared aspirations. I am grateful for the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.”

Dr. Imelda P. Macaspac, OIC-Schools Division Superintendent, echoed Mayor Paulino’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of such events in fostering a sense of pride and belongingness among the residents. “The Department of Education is proud to be a part of this celebration. Our schools play a vital role in nurturing not only academic excellence but also the cultural identity of our students. This parade is a beautiful reflection of that commitment,” she stated.

The parade featured a spectacular showcase of floats representing various entities, including the Schools Division Office, Federation of the Schools Parent-Teachers Association, Mr. & Ms. DepEd, Miss Olongapo 2023, 17 Barangays of Olongapo City, NGOs, and Business Clubs. Each float was adorned with vibrant decorations, reflecting the unique culture and creativity of its participants.

Street dancing troupes added a dynamic and energetic element to the parade, captivating onlookers with their skillful choreography and colorful costumes. The drum and lyre exhibitions further heightened the festive atmosphere, filling the air with rhythmic beats that resonated throughout the city.

Notable participants included school personnel, Boys Scouts and Girls Scouts of the Philippines, and representatives from the business sector, non-governmental organizations, and various community groups, all of whom came together to celebrate Olongapo City’s rich cultural tapestry.

As the parade rolled its way through the city streets, spectators lined the route, cheering and applauding the participants, and catching thrown candies.  Families, friends, and visitors alike gathered in the joyous atmosphere, creating lasting memories and strengthening the bonds that make Olongapo City a vibrant and close-knit community.
