Laughing Mutahar is a reaction video of YouTuber Mutahar "SomeOrdinaryGamers" Anas shrilly laughing. Taken from a 2016 let's play video, the clip has been used as a reaction and in 21st-century humor memes since June 2020.

Origin

On August 31st, 2016, YouTuber[1] SomeOrdinaryGamers uploaded a video titled "WEEABOO "SCREAMER" CRINGE!" In one part of the video, gets jumpscared while playing low-quality Japanese horror games, and reacts with a shrill laugh. The video (shown below) received over 2.4 million views in six years.



On June 16th, 2020, Instagram[2] user posted a Big Floppa meme with the Laughing Mutahar reaction cam edited in. The post gained over 88,100 views and 10,700 likes in two years (shown below).



Spread

In the following weeks, the Big Floppa meme was reposted by users on TikTok, Twitter and Reddit. For example, on June 26th, 2020, TikTok[3] user @consumethyshmeat reposted the video, with the video gaining over 1,900 views and 200 likes in two years. On July 15th, Twitter[4] user @daddi_floof reposted the meme, with the video gaining over 40,400 views, 340 retweets and 2,700 likes in two years.

On June 16th, 2020, YouTube[5] user Ghetto Santa posted a clip of Mutahar laughing, with the audio replaced with the opening riff of "Mundian To Bach Ke" by Panjabi MC. The video gained over 1.6 million views in two years (shown below).

Following the viral spread of the Big Floppa meme, the clip gained popularity in 21st Century Humor montages. For example, on July 4th and 11th,, TikTok[6][7] user @consumethyshmeat posted two such memes that gained over 2,800 views and 489,800 views in two years, respectively (shown below, left and right).

On July 20th, 2020, YouTube[8] user SomeRandomPiggo uploaded a cropped version of Mutahar's laugh. The video received over 6.8 million views in two years (shown below).



In the following weeks, the clip achieved viral popularity on YouTube as it was used as a reaction cam. For example, on August 5th, YouTube[9] user z3d posted a video titled, "10 Mutahar Laugh Variations" which gained over 3.4 million views in two years (shown below, left). On December 6th, 2020, TikTok[10] user @jumpy.mc posted a Minecraft meme that gained over 13.4 million views and 1.4 million likes in two years (shown below, right). More TikToks using the reaction were posted in the following weeks.

Mutahar's Response

On December 9th, 2020, SomeOrdinaryGamers[11] uploaded a video titled "I Have The Best Laugh On TikTok…" in which he reacted to TikToks using his laugh reaction. The video accumulated over 1.6 million views in two years (shown below).
