    PHILIPPINE-AMERICAN WAR
    Philippine-American War, the war between the United States and Filipino revolutionaries from 1899 to 1902, an insurrection that may be seen as a continuation of the Philippine Revolution against Spanish rule. The Treaty of Paris (1898) had transferred Philippine sovereignty from Spain to the United States but was not recognized by the Filipinos, whose troops were in actual control of the entire archipelago except the capital city of Manila. Although an end to the insurrection was declared in 1902, sporadic fighting continued for several years thereafter.

    Not all of the insurgent leaders had responded to Aguinaldo's acceptance of the United States authority and his call for an end to the fighting, but by July 1901 only Miguel Malvar in Batangas and Vincente Lukban in Samar still led forces capable of resisting American control. Malvar took over as President of the Philippine Republic as designated in Aguinaldo's decreed line of succession. He reorganized Filipino forces in southern Luzon and renamed the combined armed forces, which possessed around 10,000 rifles at the time, "Army of Liberation". He also reorganized the regional departments of the Republic, which included the Marianas as a separate province. Lukban was captured in February 1902 and Malvar on 16 April.

    The Filipinos were treated harshly. Many r@ped and killed. Burned villages when they don't comply with the occupiers. Put into concentration camps similar to ones perpetrated to the American-Indians and often called n*ggers, monkeys, dogeaters, and many more slurs. The Revolutionaries also burned villages and killed civilians when they don't give them food and supplies. The human cost of the war was significant. An estimated 20,000 Filipino combatants were killed, and more than 200,000 civilians perished as a result of combat, hunger, or disease. Of the 4,300 Americans lost, some 1,500 were killed in action, while nearly twice that number succumbed to disease.

    The Philippines was Occupied by the Spanish for 333 years. When we learned that we are being treated harshly, we fought hardly for independence and we finally got it in 1898. But the US wanted to expand it's influence and was inspired by the White Man's Burden and Manifest Destiny. We were occupied by the US for 43 until the Japanese took over and invaded us in 1941. We finally had our freedom in 1946 after fighting for decades and millions dead.
