Quote of the week: Ines de la Fressange

— by Alyson Walsh

Not that I ever need an excuse to feature Ines de la Fressange on That’s Not My Age, but I’m pleased to see the 55-year-old model and muse is back in the news after announcing the relaunch of her eponymous accessories label (originally founded in 1991). This week Grazia magazine asked IdlF about ageing and ‘the pressure to get work done,’ and I’d like to customise her response and have it printed on a t-shirt, or at least written on a Post-It note to be stuck onto the bathroom mirror:

‘Look, you start ageing at 18, and now I’m 55, I’m pretty used to it.’

Her comment on achieving a work-life balance made me feel better about myself too:

‘The secret is that I don’t juggle anything. My dog is too fat, I never have time to take him for a walk, and when I see him it’s pathetic. At home all the bulbs need to be changed, and our carpet has holes in it. The only thing in the fridge is a packet of ham that’s slowly changing colour. My boyfriend is always complaining, and I never have time to get a manicure, so my nails are rotten. Nothing is perfect but, thank God, because otherwise I’d be like a statue.’

Hooray for Ines. Not only is the author of Parisian Chic effortlessly stylish, she’s intelligent, self-deprecating and funny too.
