“Zero Dark Thirty” writer-producer Mark Boal has launched Page 1, a movie-TV development and production company funded by Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures.
Boal will serve as CEO and producer on Page 1 projects and may also write some of the screenplays or teleplay adaptations. Ellison will produce or exec produce.
Annapurna will have a first-look deal to finance and produce select projects it acquires and develops, with Matthew Budman overseeing Page 1 for Annapurna.
Ellison and Budman worked as producer and co-producer, respectively, on “Zero Dark Thirty.”
Hugo Lindgren will be Page 1 president. Lindgren is a former editor of the New York Times magazine, editorial director of New York magazine and interim editor of the Hollywood Reporter.
Boal associate Jonathan Leven, a co-producer on “Zero Dark Thirty,” has joined Page 1 as a development/production executive.
Boal received Oscar nominations for producing and writing “Zero Dark Thirty,” a film that also marked Ellison’s first major success as a producer via Annapurna. He also won Oscars for producing and writing “The Hurt Locker.”

Boal has been putting together Page 1 for the past year. He’s developing movie and TV projects based on reported actual events, derived from source material acquired from reporters, magazines and book publishers, newspapers and broadcast outlets a la “The Social Network,” “Captain Phillips” and “Lone Survivor.”
“There are great stories being told every day by reporters who dig deep and provide not only great reportage, but insights into who we are as societies, as nations, as people,” Boal, himself a former journalist, said in a statement. “And these are the kinds of stories we want to translate to the bigscreen.”
Boal is represented by CAA and Management 360. Both are involved in Page 1’s development activities.
