Easy and Yummy Palitaw Recipe

Want to taste a traditional Filipino snack? We have got the perfect recipe for you! Today, we are going to make some Palitaw and you will surely love it – we know this because we love it!

Palitaw is a wonderful Filipino snack or merienda made with glutinous rice and covered with grated coconut and sugar with the option to have roasted sesame seeds on it. Palitaw is made by rolling these ingredients into a ball and then flattening it so as to make a flattened sweet rice cake that is fun to eat as its texture is chewy and a bit grainy, but also its taste is of course, sweet and coconut-y.

Truly, Palitaw is not only easy to make as it is also fun to do, because it actually got its name from the process of doing it. The glutinous rice is first grinded and then you will have to form it into small balls, flatten them, and then drop them in boiling water. Wondering what part of that process did it get its name from? Well, it’s actually at the end of it, when the flattened glutinous rice dough surfaces to the top of the boiling water, because the word “palitaw” actually means “to surface”.

Do you feel like you are now ready to pop some Palitaw into your mouth? You will even be more ready after a few minutes, because we prepared some visuals for you! Here’s our easy-to-follow Paitaw recipe video which you can make with your friends and family, and then eat it right after. Enjoy!
