Help creating Windows XP Starter: Beyond Limits edition

Post by WinXPFan »

You all know XP Starter Edition right? It was a very limited OS by M$.
Can't work with more than 512MB RAM,120GB HDD and 3 programs can be only opened, the Screen resolution was limited to 1024x768.
And limtations can be removed somehow. E. g. to enable the Luna theme, replace explorer.exe and desk.cpl with the vanilla one from Full Win XP Pro or Home.
But how do I remove other limitations, such as the 1024x786 screen resolution, 512MB RAM and 120GB HDD to run this OS beyond limits? Which files should I replace?
Help me to create Windows XP Starter: Beyond Limits Edition.
I love Windows XP!

Not something easy to do. You might have to patch ediskeer.dll and system files for verifying the integrity of ediskeer.dll.

I can just replace it with the Vanilla XP version, that's easier.

At this rate, you're basically creating a wolf in Starter Edition's clothing.

Also, there was also a stricter RAM limit of 256 MB for most international releases. Thank you, Mi¢ro$oft.

at that point, why not just use regular xp or server 03? it's literally the same version of Windows but without those awful limitations.

I can understand some projects for old software where the point is to inject new life into it, in the form of an unofficial service pack (e.g. XP unofficial SP4) or added compatibility like making an extended kernel patch, but things like these are kind of pointless.

Removing one inf (something with starter in filename) and replacing winlogon with minlogon during installation makes Starter identical to Home Edition (except for profiles, of course, since minlogon). Just install HE and call it a day.

ediskeer.dll, but that file is only in Starter Edition, just for enforcing all Starter Edition limitations. You'll need to patch it.

i wander if one could hook the "ediskeer.dll" to just show the starter edition logo in the bottom righthand desktop in a home or pro xp?
