Derek Ramsay and Ellen Adarna may have had a whirlwind romance, but their marriage is proof that it can result in lasting love.
In a recent interview with broadcaster Korina Sanchez, the couple shared more details about how they met, how Derek knew Ellen was "the one", and what their married life has been like. Currently, Ellen and Derek are both taking care of Elias—Ellen's son with John Lloyd Cruz—and Derek has been vocal about how he loves his stepson as if he were his own son.
One of the reasons why Derek fell in love with Ellen was because she showed her authentic self on the first day that they met, getting rid of the whole "best foot forward" approach. In the same way, Derek felt he was just comfortable to be himself around Ellen from the very beginning.
Speaking about marriage and based on his personal experience, Derek also advises young men to settle down in their 40s as by then, they will be financially and emotionally stable already. Derek married Ellen in November 2021, before he turned 45.
"Marriage is a big thing," he said. "Best advice ko talaga to all the young guys out there, is really, take your time. Get married in your 40s. You’ll know."
"Kasi kung nasa 40 ka na, kung wala ka pang direction, talagang 'wag kang magpakasal," he added.
"I guess a lot of people who talk about marriage na parang, ‘It’s so hard, this, this, this. 'Cause they get married so young. So they have to go through the hardships of life… Yung anong papakain mo sa pamilya mo, it’s all that stuff. So that eats you, and then you have to deal pa with your partner and [there are] differences there."
"If you’re stable and nagawa mo na lahat ng gusto mong gawin sa buhay, do’n mo lang makikita talaga yung tamang tao for you. That’s what I feel. And that’s what happened to us."
