The last volume....I'm sad it's over :((( but I'm happy with the ending and the side stories. Definitely one of my favourite mangas of all times. Dengeki Daisy never failed to make me laugh and smile and cry. Going to miss the characters !

This is the final volume of the Dengeki Daisy series and so this will also be my review of the entire series.

Teru is finishing up high school alone. Her beloved big brother has died, her only solace are the messages she exchanges with DAISY, who communicates with her through the cell phone her brother left her. At school, the new janitor seems to be around when Teru needs help, they have a conflict filled relationship totally at odds with what she has with DAISY...

I loved and adored this series! I was totally sucker punched by Teru and Daisy's relationship and how Kurosaki intersected with them. Her brother who is deceased also plays a huge part in the story that makes you sob in heartbreak... The art goes a long way in supporting the story. The mangaka has things gorgeous dreamy way of drawing that has so much emotion! Even though this are static drawings you feel sucked into their emotions and pain.

There is a lovely balance between humor with Kurosaki and the janitor duties and "Go bald, Kurosaki!" Then we have the lovely supportive DAISY who says the right things and sustains Teru when she needs it most... understand the root of DAISY and where he comes from is a counter to all the funny sarcasm. It gives the story this natural feel than shouldn't be thought of lightly.

Why should you read this series?!

"Online" Romance Meet and Fall in Love.
The relationship between Teru and DAISY is so beautiful and when you learn where it stems from it makes you totally melt!!

Sister and Older Brother Relationship.
I love sibling relationships and Teru and her brother's flashbacks make me ache to have an older brother too! This older brother supplies love and comfort even from the grave and it warms your heart.

Themes of Love, Loss and Grief.
I can't even imagine how devastating it is to lose an older brother who protects you so, physically and mentally. Bonding over loss strengthens and remembers.

All the friendships, both old and young!
The secondary and minor characters are so winning! I loved her brother's old friends. His lover who acts as an older sister to Teru. And then there are Teru's friends from school. Kurosaki's old boss who owns a cafe now.

Spies, Secret Agents, Hackers and Government Conspiracies.
Through the beginning of the series this simmers in the background and slips out to test Teru and Kurosaki, until it comes to a head in the end and risks everything!!

As a Writer...

The story does shift near the end of the series (about volume 12 or so) from centering on Teru, DAISY and Kurosaki to being about the mysterious past that haunts them. It is way more than Teru ever knew her brother was going through! We get hackers, spies, action and kidnappings and secret agents... It's an exciting mix that balances the loss and grief that started our story.

Yes, the story dragged at this point.

The mangaka could have simply made Akira the stereotypical villain... but that isn't her way... she believes in hope and trust just as our protagonists do!! Thus we get a story that ends the way it began... with HOPE!

Dengeki Daisy is a series that has it all... romance, action, friendship and a history that makes you want to root for what matters most. You'll fly through this series and love every minute of it!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Authenticity
⋆⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tension
⋆⭐⭐⭐⭐ Plot
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Art

BOTTOM LINE: Best Action Shoujo I've read so far!

This series is fun, sweet, action-packed & humorous! I'm glad I finally got around to finishing it. While the beginning of this final volume was fairly anti-climactic, the following short stories illuminated the future of these characters we've come to love. The result is a bittersweet portrait of friendship, family, new romance, and the promise of peace. Overall, a well-deserved finale after such a difficult journey.

I've finally finished this manga, this story, this wonderful journey.

I started reading this manga in 2012, where the latest chapter was chapter 32. There are so many points, so many things I want to talk about. So I'm going to break this up into 7 parts. Please bear with me.

PART 1 - THE STORY LINE: This manga is roughly about a young 16 year old girl, named Teru, who a year ago, lost her brother due to an illness. However - there is one thing that he left her. And that is a cell phone. To contact 'Daisy', a person that her brother has entrusted her with and to protect her when he passes. And so, when she loses her brother, she emails Daisy for support, for guidance, for strength, and the beginning arc of this manga is about their connection over email. But they never meet due to difficult circumstances. Little does she know, that Daisy is someone that is so far, but so near to her.

THE CHARACTERS: I have to praise the author tremendously for creating, and fleshing out such interesting and non-stereotypical characters within a Shoujo manga. Teru is incredibly strong, hilarious, smart, witty and oh so lovable. But not because she is the stereotypical "save me damsil in distress" protagonist, but she is genuine, realistic, different, and this really touches the reader's hearts. Kurosaki, who is revealed early on to be Daisy and the school janitor, is the most deepest, funniest but fleshed out man that I've ever read. He isn't your typical rich hero, nor is he charming in any way. He's a 24 year old blonde and poor delinquent, who is a heavy smoker carrying a horrible, dreadful sin. But he is real, and truly connects with our Teru in such an interesting and original way that leaves the readers in awe and understanding of their relationship. Throughout the manga, they both deepen each other, and the way that Teru 'saves' Kurosaki, has been so magnificently conveyed to us by the author that we really just don't know whether to laugh or cry in joy - or just do both. The side characters are also very important, especially Teru's brother, who you also want as your own brother. Not because he truly cares for his sister, but he cares for those around him. Also he is really silly. Riko is not your stereotypical bitchy extra female character, instead she is strong, capable and dependable. Teru's friends grow tremendously throughout the manga, as do many others. And there is one specific character - who you think is an extra, which ends up to be the most important character of them all. The characters that the author introduces to us are original and so beautiful in their own way, that there is nothing to complain about.

THE ART: On first impression, I wasn't a fan of the art. It wasn't "beautiful". However, as I continued reading, the little comic relief and cartoons that the mangaka included immediately converted me and I instantly fell in love with the way that the story flowed within the squares. The 'dramatic' and 'gory' scenes were done incredibly well, despite it being a Shoujo manga as does the 'beautiful' and 'precious' moments of the manga. The tone of the art compliments with the story, and there is more to praise on the way that each character is drawn in such detail, that it just stuns you and makes you appreciate the raw beauty of it.

THE DEVELOPMENT: The development of the characters I have already briefly touched on, and despite Teru beginning as a strong and capable heroine, the mangaka indeed does not leave out her vulnerable and weak side. Same with Kurosaki, despite his scary and strong demeanour, the mangaka does not leave out his hilarious and witty responses. These characters develop majorly throughout the manga, and there isn't a moment where you want to just sigh and slap your forehead in agony because of a character's actions. The development of the art is incredibly done well - and while it does start off a little too fuzzy, and blurred with some parts of the squares hard to make out, as the story progresses the art clears and every detail is important and distinct. As each character's fate and decisions start to interwine with each other, there is not a moment where you don't want to find out what will happen next to these characters and the plot. Especially in cliffhangers at the end of the volume.

THE PLOT: The plot line is, complete genius for a Shoujo manga. The mangaka did a fantastic job. I cannot praise her enough for this. It exceeded any stereotypical or repetitive moments that you normally see in romantic mangas especially a majority of the plot set within a high school setting. There are several themes that are explored throughout, most notably, guilt, romance, friendship, family, revenge, self-loathing and the most important of them all: forgiveness and gratitude. Also humour... how can I forget about humour. Every chapter will make you want more, will make you laugh, think and feel sad, and this cycle doesn't repeat itself. It jumps out when you least expect it. The story starts of simple, but it gradually builds into something deeper and again for a Shoujo manga, I did not expect the idea of criminal hacking and decoding to be so important. And oh yes, it is important.

THE ENDING: It left me in tears. It left me smiling. It closed my heart. It tore my heart. It healed my heart. It was beautiful. Every character, eventually had a resolution. Whether it was good or not... read for yourself to find out.

MY OVERALL FEELINGS: Of course I maybe biased, but I do not for once regret investing my time in this manga, in this story, and in these characters. Since 2012, I have been waiting for a new chapter to be released, sometimes a couple of weeks, sometimes months. And in the latest case... a year. I have been waiting, and every time a chapter was translated and scanned... I was never left disappointed. This manga was not your typical manga... and I know that there isn't a manga out there that is like this. And I've read more than 300 mangas in my life time. These characters, they live with you. They make you feel, and they make you realise things about yourself, about humanity that you don't usually think about.

Thank you Kyousuke Motomi, for creating such an incredible story. For creating such deep, insightful and unexpectedly hilariously beautiful fleshed out characters. I don't know who will read this review... since it's like an essay, and it's way too long. But, if you're into comics/mangas... read this manga. I promise you, it will not disappoint. If you have any more questions/comments about this manga that you would like to write to me, feel free to add me, and message me in my inbox. I will always reply.

Until then... goodbye Teru. Goodbye Kurosaki. Thank you for lightening up our lives for the last couple of years. It's been a long journey, but it's been a wonderful one.

DISCLAIMER: The following is my review for the entire series, not just this volume.

A friend of mine has been telling me for YEARS that this manga is the bomb, but for some reason or other I have been on the fence about it so far. I think I remember reading a bit of the beginning once upon a time and not liking it... But I gave in a few days now and borrowed her copies to try again. And now that I have finished the series, I have no idea why I didn't like it back then it as this series was the bomb and I laughed my ass off like crazy reading this.

I loved that there were moments where I was laughing like crazy, there were moments where my heart was racing for the characters only for the mangaka to write the next scene in a way that my heart melted... There were moments where my heart was breaking and moments where I was swooning like no-one's business. The story is a rollercoaster of emotions and I LOVE stories that make my feelings race.

I really liked how a couple of the characters seemed to do a total 180 in the course of this story. At first I didn't like them, but somehow the mangaka managed to write and draw it in a way that I started to totally root for them. There were, of course, the opposites as well where I didn't mind the character much at first and maybe even somewhat liked, but in the end they turned out to be the bad guys... And why did I like it so much? Well, easy. Because I like surprises. I like not knowing every detail about a story beforehand.

The drawings are really lovely - this mangaka's drawing style seems to fit me to a T. There are only a few moments in these 3072 pages where the drawings don't make all that much sense (for instance one character's leg was awfully thin), but the overall impression is awesome.

In the end, the story's worth a read only for the ferris wheel scene in chapter 68. The entire story beforehand is simply building it all up to that point... and when you finally get to that point, well, you scream like it's noone's business. (Well, I certainly almost did.) And it's SO WORTH IT.

I am so sad it's over. I would have loved to read more about grown up Teru . This is probably in my top 5 best manga series of all time. I loved this to pieces, the characters, the romance and the plot were so well done and not cheesy at all. All in all this is a 5 star series for me.

I really love him and what he did. And also the extra last chapter about the baby was super cute and funny! I really liked it

Overall series review - 5 stars, it's hilarious!
This manga is a masterpiece and one of my all-time favourites. The plot is interesting and engaging, with a great mystery vibe throughout. The comedy timing is perfect and made me laugh out loud so much that I had a lot of fun reading it. While there were emotional moments, the characters were amazing, particularly the two main leads, who had phenomenal character development.

Finished this series, really enjoyed it. Great shojo manga but also has sense of adventure and action. The innocent romance and real world problems and the government spy kinda problems are extremely enveloping and I could barely put it down!

I am so happy that this series is finally over because I thought the last volumes dragged on too long. Overall I really like the beginning of this series but expected something totally different from it. The beginning was so romantic and funny that I believed that "Dengeki Daisy" would be the typical romantic shoujo manga series but that is not was "Dengeki Daisy" turned out to be. In the end the series was more serious and darker than I liked. This does not mean that the story is bad it only means that the story was not my cup of tea. The storyline and drawings confused me towards the end but nevertheless the drawing style was really really good, loved it. So this is review of a former "Dengeki Daisy" lover. I just bought this last volume to complete the series and not because I was really interested in the ending.

But to come back to this volume. Only the first 50 pages were part of the original series (only one chapter) and I do not think that this chapter gives us new information. For me only one thing about that chapter was sweet the ending to Akiras story. The rest was pretty unexciting and boring. As a fan one should definitely buy this last volume but the rest should not expect a very romantic or somewhat ending.

After this last chapter four bonus stories are following. The first is about Teru and Kurosaki and was drawn by Kyousuke Motomi before the ending of this series. What I liked about those few pages that it showed the adult feelings Kurosaki has about Teru.
The next bonus material were two pages about a Christmas story that were so uninteresting that I skipped them.
A longer bonus manga revealed some of the Soichiro backstory with Antler and Riko. Definitely worth a read for fans of this manga.
And finally the last bonus story was set in a nearby future. I hoped for more than I got. But it was hinted that Teru and Kurosaki might marry in the future and have children. But the story itself was completely unrealistic. But the ending was sweet nonetheless.

And at the end her debut story followed. I did not like the story. The hero was a douchebag! He insults her the whole time to make her a better archer? Calls her garbage and that she belongs were garbage belongs? That is so utterly unromantic that I could not understand the heroines love for him. And if you think he secretly loves her it might be hinted but nothing of the sort happens. No kiss, no apology!

Conclusion:

Only for huge "Dengeki Daisy" fans!

I can't believe this series has finally finished. After so long, and following it for so long it's over. I won't lie whenever it comes to the end of a manga, specially a manga I started reading while it was still an ongoing serialisation, I kinda never want it to end because I get used to it ongoing and then when it ends, it's so much more impacting than when you read a manga that has already ended serialisation a long time ago.

Dengeki Daisy was one of my favourite shoujo mangas when I first started reading manga obsessively, and it still is. I really liked the ending, and I think it ended right. I definitely don't think there's anything to complain about, except for one of the side story's where I say 'Kurosaki you pervert!' but hey, ship him and Teru, always!

Akira was a really interesting character throughout the series, and I think the ending for him was great.

Well, all I can say is, I can't believe it's finished....and now, for all the other mangas I've been following, some day they will finish too.

Oh boy, that was a terrible review, good thing I never do reviews....just Suggestive Reads!

I loved this series. It is one of my manga series! I loved it from beginning. It was a roller coaster! Their were so many interesting incidents which kept me hooked and the relation between Teru and Kurosaki aka Daisy is just amazing and sweet! I just love those two! The last two volumes were the best. The whole story getting wrapped up and all the answers we were waiting to be answered were out!
And the M's Testament woaw that was cruel but dang the whole adventure was freaking awesome! I love this manga!!
A MUST READ

I absolutely LOVE this series, and I was really anticipating the final chapter after that last cliffhanger... but this? This was one chapter of finale to tie up loose ends and an entire volume of bonus materials. I love the story. I want to get that straight. What I wish, though, was that this final tie-up chapter had been included in the last volume. If they wanted to publish the bonus material, fine. But give it a volume of its own. So my complaint is about publishing, not the manga.

Series review? 3 stars. I do think it dragged on, the characters weren’t as flushed out as they could’ve been, and the dynamic could’ve been altered.

Final book review? 3 stars. The island blows up and Akira is saved, as is our main cast.

The author’s decision to give a couple of baby because more than likely it would be creepy if they suddenly had one themselves, was left field and incredibly lazy. Everyone knows it’s a trope among Japanese media for women, to imply that the woman will only truly be happy if she’s married and has a baby so this ending was a middle finger. I mean yeah the original mom gets it back and blah blah blah but it brings up how they’re gonna have kids in the future and egghgg.

Antler gave them a stick on the boat to give to Akira and it made no real difference at all so okay. Everyone gets to live a happy life which is quite enjoyable, everyone continues on and the past seems to be forgotten. Also for some reason at the very beginning of this book they give you a chronological order of events, would’ve been appreciative early on to be honest. It kind of gives you an event list of how the characters age but not really.

I couldn’t care less about the extra two chapters about Cupid, I paid for Daisy not padding. This literally only has one chapter about Daisy and it says that ends the main story. Then it’s just short little extras.

All in all that series was about a secret romance between a highschooler and her phone turned real friend, who is older than her, slowly falling in love despite their awkward relationship. If for some reason became a story about computer hacking and spy drama, instead of you know shojo. Why does Kurosaki smoke so much JESUS. Anyway it’s not an amazing series, I certainly didn’t collect all 16,I simply went to the library to finish reading it. But it’s also not a bad series it has a lot of heart. I hope I didn’t teach high school girls to try and get close with men in their mid20s. :/

I really think the art can be improved, you kind of saw it a little bit as the artist grew but it was pretty stagnant and only peaked with certain scenes and emotions.

I binged the end of this series, so I need a bit to gather my thoughts for the final review, but here’s a couple of notes for that review for future me:

Good Stuff
1. Not Your Usual Shoujo - Romantic comedy encasing a spy/hacker/action thriller.
2. Intrigue and Mystery.
3. Deep Dive into Realistic Emotions: Yes, Kind People Can Still Hate People Who Abuse Them, and That’s Valid.
4. The “Lolita Complex” Thing: Self-Awareness and Limitations.

Bad Stuff
1. The “Lolita Complex” Thing: Self-aware enough to know it is not great, but STILL DID IT ANYWAY. Hypocrisy. Making him 18 or even 19 would not have actually changed the story because he still could have done everything he did. He’d just be younger and closer in age to the main character. I can’t give higher than a 4* because of this problem.
2. Some of the plot gets confusing with the sheer amount of information we are given sometimes, which is sometimes later shown to have omissions and false aspects. I rarely get confused with stuff like this, but I still did. This would have been less confusing in some places if some elements had been introduced early. The full action-thriller plot lines really only began halfway through the entire series, but some things maybe could have happened sooner or have been foreshadowed. However, I know that the reason for this is that the first “mystery” of the series (Who is Daisy?) needed to be solved and have its conclusion, but still...

Volume: 4*
Series: 4*

Warnings for pedophilia/relationships between minors and adults, including the main relationship (16 & 24 years old), violence, blood, kidnapping, drugs and drugging, killing and assassination, death related to cancer, kissing without consent, psychological abuse, human experimentation, implied rape (in this case, not truly consensual sex with a partner—side character)

Now that I have completely finished the series and have read all the books I think I could safely say this is on of my favorite manga series that I have ever read! I love the art style and the story line was fantastic! This series made me cry, scream, worry, laugh, sigh, and hide my head in embarrassment. This series attached itself to my heart, and now that I have read them all I definitely see myself buy the full series to add to my collection to reread over and over again.

My favorite part about the art would be how beautifully drawn everything is especially the characters and then how quickly it can change to be the cutest funny ever. (Aka Go Bald Kurosaki!!!!)

The story line blew me away! I will admit that it was really hard to follow the story line at times because of all the mystery and tech talk. However the love in this series ( not just the main characters but all) was beautifully done. I loved to watch the characters grow and I loved to watch their relationships develop including the one in the end that I admit I never saw coming.

I also loved Teru as a character, she reminds me of myself which is why I could sorta relate to her personality. She was a lot of fun, but she was also very strong!

Kurosaki I love this man, he was so caring and wonderful! His heart was so big! I also loved how he could switch from BA to Kitten in seconds!

As for the rest of the characters there is so much to love!!! If I talked about them all this review would reach the Character limit allowed.

So my finally word on the matter. This series is wonderful! If you have yet to pick it up I would highly suggest it!

Dengeki Daisy has always been one of those classic shoujo mangas, and the hype for it was real while it was still publishing. My friend had recommended Dengeki Daisy to me 7 years ago. Picking it this manga up 7 years later has its pros and cons. I missed out on the excitement and the opportunities to talk about this manga with others, but I was free to binge all ~80 chapters without waiting for each chapter to be published and translated.

Dengeki Daisy has amazing characters that you just can't help but fall in love with. Each and every one of them has a unique personality, even the antagonists and the characters who are dead at the time that the story takes place. The many flashbacks and deep explanations really helped me understand why everything played out the way it did in the manga, and the thing is that the story is actually really complicated. With a genius protagonists calculating moves all the way from ~7 years ago, hackers, etc; Dengeki Daisy is more than just a shoujo manga.

Dengeki Daisy is definitely a manga that I would recommend to anyone who likes shoujo mangas with great storylines. But the moral of the story was heartwarming: Don't let your past hurt you, who is in the present.
