Rate this book

If you are in a toxic relationship with Mister or Miss Always Right and you feel suffocated and confused all the time due to Mr. Manipulative or Ms. Gaslighting, then keep reading.

Is there just too much drama in your life? You may be in a relationship with a narcissist.

Stop awhile, though.

Do people walk on eggshells around you? Do they seem nervous or strained? Then maybe, you are at the other end of the spectrum. Maybe, you are Miss Drama or Mr. Bossy. Yes, these may be the actual names that others use on you when you are not listening.

Maybe you are Mister or Miss Bystander, just want to inform yourself or a person who is in too deep, with the scars of abuse (physical or otherwise) too many to count.

This book, while it cannot provide an official diagnosis, can take your hand and assist you towards a path to healing. You will feel that your personality will start to erode. Do not just jump to conclusions and make hasty decisions. Once you are equipped with the knowledge, you will better know what you need to do.

This book will attempt to help not just those who have decided to leave, but also those who have decided to stay. Whatever your eventual choices maybe, you are the master. You have suffered enough under the controlling devices of a person who has lost his psyche a long time ago. There is no need to put more salt into your wounds by judging you for your choices.

You can read this book in the privacy of your own home, but you can also form a team. Find the other people who are part of the narcissist’s life. Maybe you can design an intervention or maybe you can just create a safe and healthy haven among yourselves. A trip to a mental health professional is also recommended.

You will learn:

how to recognize narcissism and its causes
Understand the difference between the various types and sub-types of narcissism, including which ones are the most dangerous
how to better describe your relationship
to see through the smoke and mirrors that sometimes accompany a codependent and toxic relationship with a narcissist
what narcissism looks like in various contexts and relationships
how the narcissist’s desire for perfection presents a huge problem.
whether or not a narcissist can affect the whole family
how to make sure that you never fall into the trap of narcissism again
how to start the healing process and get on the path to being a better and healthier you

For those who suspect that they are narcissists themselves, you can also grab this book to know yourself better and understand what that festering emptiness is all about.

Provides a good introduction to narcissism

This book provides a good basis on recognizing the differences between having narcissistic tendencies and being an actual narcissist. I thought everything in the book was truly accurate; however, I disagree with the statement made that a narcissist is proud of their condition and will admit it, thereby showing the disparity between this and other mental illnesses. I have first-hand experience with this type of individual and given the negative connotation attached to narcissism, most of these individuals do not want to be linked to anything negative. A narcissist will pass this label onto their victim before EVER admitting they are capable of such callous disregard for the well being and feelings of another person. I also agree wholeheartedly that those with the condition should seek immediate help. Unfortunately, narcissists do not admit it and feel they do nothing wrong and therefore hardly ever get the treatment they need. It is usually the victims that are seeking says to recover from the mental, emotional and sometimes physical abuse inflicted by a narcissist and who will pick up a book on the subject or go to a counselor to cope with it all. This book would definitely benefit those with narcissistic tendencies and victims of narcissism as it provides key traits on identifying characteristics of this disorder.

Interesting

Having dealt with a narcissistic foster child, we saw all of the behaviors mentioned. Knowing the parent, it was clear that the learned behavior was conditioned. Very unfortunate situation.

I was thrown off by the beginning, which stated this book was not likely going to be read by a licensed therapist. The book covered surface level behaviors, triggers and recommended responses.

Narcissist 101

This book tells you everything you need to know about narcissist and narcissistic behavior. Narcissist care about theirselves only. They are very selfish people and get a kick out of seeing other people hurt and unhappy. After reading this book I better understand their behavior and how I should treat them and deal with them.

Insightful

This book offers a thorough and in depth understanding of narcissism. I was pleasantly surprised at how well concepts were explained, and with the use of real life examples. I especially appreciated the chapter on how to interact in a healthy way with someone who has narcissistic tendencies.
