There's perhaps no fashion item more closely associated with Carrie Bradshaw's wardrobe than the tutu. While the Manolo Blahnik Hangisi or the Fendi Baguette might give it a run for its money, the ballet-style skirt became central to the character's Sex and the City wardrobe – whether she was wearing it to dance in her closet or running through the streets, as seen in the original series opening credits. The tutu also remains a favourite piece of Sarah Jessica Parker's.

The actress attended the New York City Ballet last night with her husband – alongside an endless list of well-dressed guests including Christy Turlington, Diane Kruger, Naomi Watts and Ariana DeBose – wearing a ballet-inspired look that wouldn't look out of place in Bradshaw's wardrobe (nor the NYC ballet's costume department).

Parker – who is a patron of the New York City Ballet – dressed up in a black tulle gown by Carolina Herrera, which featured an elegant long-sleeved off-the-shoulder bodice and an elegant full skirt. In true Bradshaw style, Parker put a fun twist on her evening look with her accessories; she added a statement, trailing XL hair bow which added drama to her ensemble, a shimmering bag, and a mismatched pair of satin crystal-embellished heels from her own shoe label, SJP. She finished the look with a Vacheron Constantin black-strap watch and Fred Leighton jewellery.

This isn't the first time that Parker's outfit has featured a tribute to Bradshaw's style. Previously, the actress released a special mismatched pair of shoes under her own label – a yellow and pink combination, with a percentage of sales benefiting The Empowerment Plan. At the time, she wrote: "A not-so-subtle nod to a certain very special lady's well-documented footwear moment from many years ago."

Sex and the City fans will remember Bradshaw's original mismatched shoe pairing in the episode 'Escape from New York,' where she, along with her pals Miranda and Samantha, head to Los Angeles, with Bradshaw wearing one pink and one blue Christian Louboutin sandal.
