Hit Your Heart

4Minute

On May 19th 2010, 4minute came back with a new sound and mature image. Nine months after the release of their mini-album For Muzik, the girls returned better than ever. The mini-album is a strong release and contains a suitable mix of speedy pop, R&B and slow songs. This seven track mini-album is enough to quench your thirst for the girls' talent and leave you anticipating their next release.

From the start you can tell that 4minute mean business with their opening track Who’s next? Feat BEAST. The incorporation of male vocals lends power to this introduction, adding diversity and a chance for the girls to stand their ground against different vocals. This opening immediately leads into the main song, used for a promotional video, HuH (Hit Your Heart). It turns out to be a song with strong music, vocals and a powerful message. The girls are doing what they want and no one will stop them. They are empowered women and spread that message to other girls.

Invitation follows and already you can sense the girls' strong R&B vibe and influences. This song has a steady beat and catchy lyrics, giving the listeners a melody to bop along too. I My Me Mine has a similar sound to HuH but with more of a pop feel towards it. The sound and the lyrics are just as catchy and this song will have you dancing and singing along to the chorus.

Past the halfway mark is Bababa. A soft pop song that breaks the tempo slightly and flows towards the softness of their voices. Once again, a catchy chorus and upbeat sounds center this song and create an easy listening track. The lyrics are on a different level than HuH and show a more vulnerable side to the girls, telling a story about a girl who is in love with a boy but is unsure of his feelings for her. This is a soft side to 4minute which enables us to connect with them on a level of understanding, as this is a situation that most people go through.

Highlight brings the mood up with a faster paced song and a similar sound to that of Muzik found on their previous release. This song brings them back to the R&B influence and is perhaps the weakest track on this release, being something that they have already given us. They seemed to have played it safe with this track and kept to what they know.

4minute round up the mini-album with their very first ballad. Cool and Natural is a soft song which is completely different from all of the tracks on this release. It is much softer and the vocals are done well for this type of song. The girls use their voices to their full potential and show they can do ballads well. 4minute are really proving that they can do a range of songs including the slow, sweet melodies.

With this release, 4minute have the right formula of songs you will remember and will have stuck in your head for a while. The choruses for each track are addictive, catchy and have a certain beat to them that’s easy to follow even with the ballads. HuH leaves you wanting more and lets you see that 4minute are a force to be reckoned with.
