ABUCAY, Bataan – Fire of still unknown cause razed a commercial building, located on a block adjacent to the town plaza in Barangay Wawa here, on Sunday morning.

Senior Fire Officer 3 Alberto Ramos, Jr., Abucay fire marshal, said the blaze started around 8:20 a.m. and was declared out after an hour.

The fire reached the second alarm, with firefighting units from neighboring towns, including Balanga City and Samal, responding to prevent the spread to nearby establishments and residential areas.

Ramos said no one was hurt.

Gloria Sibug, a stall owner who sells ice cream and assorted merchandise, said she was still in the house when the fire broke out.

Nang dumating ako ay lumiliyab na ang lahat sa building at mataas na ang apoy (When I arrived, the building was already on fire),” she said in an interview.

Jesus Valencia, who resides with his family in the building and operates a shawarma outlet, said his wife was awakened by the fire.

He attempted to help by using a fire extinguisher but it was too late.

“I took my 94-year-old mother who has difficulty walking and we all ran out of the building,” he narrated. (PNA)
