Square Enix Collective to Publish Indie WW2 Shooter Battalion 1944

Support class.

Battalion 1944, the skill-based multiplayer shooter aiming to usher in a return to World War 2 games, will now be published by Square Enix through its Collective label.

The work of British developer Bulkhead Interactive, the game reached its Kickstarter funding goal within 3 days last year, going on to make more than double the amount asked for.

Bulkhead explains that Square Enix Collective offers both funding and administrative support, allowing the small studio to focus on development and community interaction.

It's not clear right now whether Collective's input will see Bulkhead adding features originally pencilled in as unreached stretch goals. We have asked for comment.

Battalion draws on the original Battlefield, Call of Duty and Medal of Honor games, stripping away contemporary unlocks and perks in favour of a game that puts a premium on core skill.

The game has hit alpha testing as of now, and Bulkhead aims to release an early access version this summer. The game is planned to hit PC, PS4 and Xbox One upon full release.
