Christine Blasey Ford’s lawyer: FBI investigation is welcome, but shouldn’t have limitations

Debora Katz, one of Christine Blasey Ford’s attorneys, said Ford “welcomes” an FBI investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, but said there should be no “artificial limits” regarding time and scope.

“A thorough FBI investigation is critical to developing all the relevant facts. Dr. Christine Blasey Ford welcomes this step in the process, and appreciates the efforts of Sens. Flake, Murkowski, Manchin, and Collins — and all other senators who have supported an FBI investigation — to ensure it is completed before the Senate votes on Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination. No artificial limits as to time or scope should be imposed on this investigation,” Katz said in a statement Friday.

President Trump instructed the FBI to launch a supplemental investigation on Friday, after Senate Republican leaders agreed to requests of two moderate Republicans to allow the FBI to look into allegations against Kavanaugh for a week.

“I’ve ordered the FBI to conduct a supplemental investigation to update Judge Kavanaugh’s file. As the Senate has requested, this update must be limited in scope and completed in less than one week,” Trump said in a statement Friday evening.

Kavanaugh said he was willing to comply with the FBI investigation.

“Throughout this process, I’ve been interviewed by the FBI, I’ve done a number of ‘background’ calls directly with the Senate, and yesterday, I answered questions under oath about every topic the senators and their counsel asked me. I’ve done everything they have requested and will continue to cooperate,” Kavanaugh said in a statement Friday.

Kavanaugh has been accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women. Ford and Kavanaugh testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday, where Ford said she was “100 percent” certain that Kavanaugh assaulted her. Kavanaugh has denied all allegations of sexual misconduct.
