UTERUS-BATTERY.

Be it known that 1, CHARLES SAMUEL WHIT- NEY HINKLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Antonio, in the county of Bexar and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Uterus- Batteries; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to electrical therap eutics; and it has for its general object to provide a simple and compact electrical or galvanic device, adapted, when placed in the womb of a patient, to develop a mild electric action and thereby promote the flow of the me'nses and render the same regular and painless.

With the foregoing end in view the invention will be fully understood from the following description and claims when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved device with the removing cord attached. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal,diametrical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal, diametrical section of the device with the inserting rod in engagement therewith; said rod being shown in elevation, and Fig. 4 is an elevation of the inserting rod removed.

In the said-drawings similar letters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, referring to which- A, indicates the rigid stem of my improved device which is designed to rest in the neck of the womb, and B, indicates a button or body which is fixedly connected to one end of the stem and is designed to rest against the mouth of the womb and thereby hold the device in position and prevent it from passing entirely into the womb. The stem A, comprises an outer. tube a, and an inner tube 1), which is connected to the tube (1, preferably in the manner shown; and the said tubes are formed of substances or metals which are conductors of electricity, whereby it will be seen that when the device is placed in the womb, where the tubes will be subject to the chemical action of the mucous fluid, said tubes will develop a mild electric action. This electric action by stimulating the genitals will promote the flow of the menses and will render the same regular and painless.

In addition to promoting the flow of the menses, when they are suppressed, my improved device may be used to advantage in the treatment of menorrhagia and many other female complaints since whenever employed it serves to stimulate and strengthen the organs so as to enable them to perform their proper functions.

In order that the device may be readily removed from the womb when desired, I attach a string as c, to the stem A, and for the purpose of inserting the device to its proper position I provide the inserting rod 0; This rod 0, may be formed of wood or metal and it is provided at one end with a reduced portion d, adapted to take into the inner tube b, of the stem A, whereby it will be seen that the rod may be employed to adjust the device to its proper position and may then be readily removed.

I construct the stem A, of my improved device of two tubes a, b, in the manner above described for the reason that it permits of the stem being made very small in diameter which is desirable and enables the mucous fluid to take within the inner tube and act upon the said tube as well as upon the outer tube.

It will be perceived from the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings that my improved device is very simple, cheap and compact and that it may be readily adjusted to its proper position by the patient herself and may be as readily removed.

Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,

1. The herein described electrical device for the treatment of diseases of the womb, comprising arigid stem composed of two concentric tubes open at both ends and formed of substances which are conductors of electricity, and a button or body connected to the stem, substantially as specified.

2. An electrical device for the treatment of diseases of the womb having a rigid stem comprising an outer tube a, and an inner tube 1); the said tubes being formed from substances which are conductors of electricity, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
