Right off out of the gate in the introduction Kean sets the tone for how the reader is to examine the presented material. She does so by setting out in in simple and clear terms exactly what informed skepticism is. There are few books that cover this topic with the proper, honest, serious tone that it deserves. Kean does her profession and this much maligned area of study credit by approaching it with skepticism, rationality and with the facts. I personally am very picky when it comes to purchasing books in this genre, there is short list of authors who have published honest educated literature on the topic. Kean is now on that list.

I have no idea whether UFOs are real or not. (That is to say, something otherworldly or what-have-you.) I very much enjoy reading about them, but am frequently irritated with the goofy, new-agey approach many authors use. This book, however, presents its case in a very no-nonsense, believable manner. Since I read books about UFOs mainly to be creeped out by them, this one was thus a goldmine of creepiness. I found the discussions of the UFOs over Arizona and the O'Hare Airport to be particularly compelling, and am hopeful that I will someday come across a thoughtful, serious book about these events.

Interesting book that was maybe a little too long for the subject. The book surveys many of the most interesting UFO incidents seen by government officials like pilots and police. The accounts were interesting and generally believable. The book did spend an inordinate amount of time asking why the U.S. doesn't take UFOs more seriously. The last 2 chapters should have been 2 pages.

One of the most well researched and credible UFO sighting books available. All reports are by top ranking military officials, airplane pilots world-wide and Government Officials. Details about specific popular sightings from reliable sources.
